Collaborate Outside Your Comfort Zone

I was watching a little of John Lennon’s 75th birthday concert over the weekend and some of the musicians they paired together were interesting. In a good way. As I started thinking about it, I am seeing more and more of these unlikely pairings on awards shows and on other music related shows. For example, there is a program called CMT Crossroads, which pairs really unlikely singers and bands together. When you see who is on the show, you start thinking how is that going to work? But it does, really well, every time.

Taking that to the next level, who do you collaborate with? Most likely it’s the same type of business or people you have always collaborated with.

My challenge to you is to look outside your comfort zone or your familiarity zone to see what collaborations you could bring together to make your business or department grow.

Look at your hobbies, your friends, the people you do business with both professionally and personally. You never know where you will find an opportunity unless you are open to finding it.

Here is an example that I found a few weeks ago. I downloaded a meditation app (story for another day) and really liked it. I reached out to the company to see how I could offer this to my friends and clients. They were more than willing to offer a discount for me to offer to all of you. By the way, you can still take advantage of that offer at  http://changecollective.com/10-percent-happier and using the coupon code: FRIENDPERCENTHAPPIER, (I am not affiliated with Change Collective, just a happy customer). This is just one example of going outside the normal.

The next step is to make a list of all your hobbies, relationships and their occupations, both personal and professional and brainstorm some ideas on how you can partner. Remember, the goal is to provide something of value to your business, staff and yourself. You will be amazed at the impact this will have on your business.

Leave me a note below on what collaborations you are working on.
